Will a 1999 Ford Taurus be alright for a first car?
Ok, so Im 17 and looking to buy my first car. I found a taurus with 72,000 miles on it. The car has no mechanical problems, only a couple of scratches. The only thing wrong with it is that the heat does not blow out very hot. they have the title on hand. The owner is selling it for ,000 because they do not need 3 cars. It seems like a great deal to me, but then again it sounds too good to be true.
What do you think?

yeah, jump on it.
people on here are retarded, yeah, fords do suck, but 1000 bucks for any running car with only 70000 miles is a good deal. buy it, you wont regret it. even if it breaks down in 2 years thats only like 40something bucks a month. to hell with these retards.
and the heat thing is definatly a cheap fix. could be as cheap as 10 dollars. most likely the thermostat, and could be as simple as adding antifreeze.
Sounds like a very good deal to me.
Ha it’s a Ford so you’re already screwed.

yes it should be fine
my brother had that as his first car and still has it
but he wanted a more flash car than it but it still works fine
hes had it for 7 years
so yes i’m sure it would be fine!!
hope this helps!!
xox
do you know the guy? is he hiding anything?
it does seem a little too good to be true
take it out for a test run before buying it
it might just need a thermostat to fix the heat problem. very inexpensive.
Taurus has a bad problem with transmissions failing. very expensive.
have a mechanic check it before buying.
Good car. Basically what my first car was a couple years ago (still is). Its a good all around car, I have not major complaints and its not so small that its dangerous like lots of cars you could get for that money. Id to a carfax report for sure though. For the amount of money you’re going to spend, its worth the investment. Also, ask the owner if you can have a mechanic take a look at the car before you buy it to see if anything is wrong with it. If the owner says no, they might be trying to hide something.
it is a solid car. and that asking price is a tad low. if the heater is dying it is probably the blower motor going bad. it is common with that car and not too expensive to fix if you don’t mind doing the work yourself. the location of the blower motor is a pita to get to is all.
overall it’s a good first car.
99 civic much better
NOOOO their computerization makes it cost LOTS to replace anything I had one and was never so glad to get rid of it please dont get that car
Can’t beat the price!
They can be good dependable cars but I have noticed several issues with Ford- 1) the 3.8L engine has head gasket problems (@90,000 miles), 2) the front wheel drive transmissions have issues and usually need rebuilding @ 95,000 miles, and they make the only oil pan I have ever heard of that rusts from the inside, out (low spot collects condensate).
I had a 1994 Taurus 3.0L that had 130,000 miles (3 transmission rebuilds) before the transmission went out for the last time and need an new oil pan at 90,000.
I currently have a Windstor 3.8L with 185,000 miles that runs great but needed a transmission at 95,000 and a head gasket at 90,000.
A 99 T aurus will be a good car for you as long as you don’t dog it. Taurus is famous for transmission problems if you run it hard. I would have the transmission checked out before buying it.
You also should compare insurance quotes for different cars before buying one, for example here - carquotes.fateback.com
I am 17 and i just bought a 1995 taurus for 1100 and it was an amazing deal. the car is good and you will like it in the long run. plus with only 70000 miles on it you can’t go wrong. the car is a good buy.
