Why does my 2006 Ford Taurus clunk?
Please…I need your help. I took my 2006 Ford Taurus to the Ford dealership and they said nothing is wrong with it, even though they can hear and feel a clunk in reverse and in drive. The problem is when I leave every morning, I have to make a 3 point turn (U-turn). So I turn the steering wheel to turn around and can’t make it. So I stop when I’m near the curb and place the car in reverse then back up and then it clunks. As I back up enough to make the 3 point turn (U-turn) I place it in drive and drive away when it clunks again. The clunk feels like it’s coming from the front end of the car. What the heck is it???? PLEASE someone help me. My waranty is almost up.
BTW: The Ford dealership has checked the struts, motor mounts, and the transmission twice. They said, I just have to live with it.

Have the rotors checked. Sometimes the stud holes on brake rotors are a little bit to big and when you have the car switching from forward to reverse you have the brake on which holds the rotor in place but the drive axle will still move causing a clunk. This is a experience problem I have had on a 2005 Toyota and a 2004 Taurus.
because you dont take care of it very well, most likely, take it to a mechanic
The Axle
thats because ford sucks!!!
im sorry i know that is no answer but its a true statement!!
VERY TRUE!!
Take it to an independent car repair, NOT FORD..and take someone there for a test drive…theres something wrong with your car and Ford will never tell you ( I had a Ford dealer put gum in the throwout bearing of my truck, so they wouldn’t have to repair it…so I had to take it somewhere else to get it repaired)
Ford is doing as little as it can right now, because of money problems. Thats not YOUR problem, but they will make it hard for you to get good service…
Ask some car guys (you know who I mean) about somewhere GOOD to take your car…
Good Luck !!! [[[ ]]]
It could be the steering rack and/or steering column. Or, possibly ball joints.
Ford Taurus sucks! I have one and had to have the rack and pinion replaced twice in one year I have a service contract with a company not associated with Ford. Otherwise, I would’ve gotten rid of the car.
I’d take the car to another repair place. Mom and pop garages are usually decent. I stay away from the chains and dealerships because I’ve caught several of them trying to feed me a bunch of BS, telling me the car needed work that wasn’t necessary. And telling me things that just didnt jive with my knowledge of auto repair.
