Is it a button or a thumb wheel. If thumb wheel it is there to dim your dome lights. If its a actual button it is something after market. The rear defrost is a rocker switch on the climate cont role cluster. It will depict a window with 3 wavy line on it.

It could be for the rear window defogger.Check to see if you rear window has black lines going across it.It could be for that.You did not say if the button lit up.
