It is the real deal. The Ford Taurus is a serious contender with few compromises. This mass produced car comes closest to a limited production run of a niche vehicle, like a Shelby Mustang. These type of vehicles are manufactured paying close attention to detail, built with tremendous pride and swagger. I think it is an outstanding effort by Ford, my hats off to the team and to the product.

Respectfully, someone commented about BMW being a better product in the $43,000 range. I beg to differ in this economy. If this where the 90's he may have a point. In this rugged auto environment, the better buy is the car that is cost effective to maintain and performs at a high level with a build quality that is arguably among the best due to engineering, instead of merely electronic wizardry as a solution to problem of transportation. Ford has made a compelling case.

Saw one the other day fly by me on the highway, from what I could make out of it, it looked really cool...definately a head-turner

The SHO is very nice, but it's about $7k overpriced. I can get a BMW 335xi for the same price. At $35k w/ Nav & performance package it's a world beater, at $43k it's up against very formidable cars and isn't that great of a deal. The other Tauruses are quite competitive against their primary competition.

Edit: I'm a Ford, guy Ford's are all I've ever owned. But If you're comparing engineering, the 3 Series is ahead of the Taurus in spades. It's lighter, handles better and has more sophistaced AWD system. Also BMW foots the bill for all maintence for 3 years. So the argument for the cost of servicing isn't valid.

I'm a Ford guy, but I try to be as objective as possible and judge cars on their own merit.
