The Taurus will go in for a major update early next year and adapt many of the new features from the recently launched Lincoln MKS. The car will get a much sleeker look but will still be based on the current model’s D3 platform

The third quarter window is on the new 2009 Lincoln and can also be seen on the 2010 Fusion. This appears to be a common theme to allow the rear window to roll down farther. I do not see a reason this will not be on the new Taurus. Personally, I can't wait to see it.
