Seems like very low miles for a 22-year old car. If that's true mileage, then it could be a decent deal. Insurance will be low, and Tauruses were pretty safe.

However, that being said, it's still a 22-year old car. Make sure you spend $100 or so and have a mechanic check it over thoroughly. Low mileage means nothing if it hasn't been maintained or it's been sitting outside for 20-plus years.

I would worry about spending money on faded paint. It's your first car, keep the cash you have in the bank for repairs. On a 22-year old car, things are going to go wrong. Belts, hoses, etc. A shiny new paint job on a car that doesn't run gets you nowhere.

40,000 miles sounds like a lie.

As far as the rest of the condition, all you told us was that it's blue, and has no rust.

That's like asking how healthy a person is, if they're blond, and have no zits.

Seriously.

Go get the service records, have a mechanic check it out, and find out WHY it's only $500. If it has those low of miles, it should be quite a bit more.

Nevermind that I have yet to find any car for under $500 that doesn't need several thousand dollars in repairs a month or two later.

And you want us to be psychic-mechanics....awesome. $500 sounds like you're getting a junk car. The fact that you have no information at all about it's mechanical condition, sounds like a junk car. The fact that all you're worried about currently, is a paint job...sounds like you're a poor shopper.
