is this a good first car?
okay so i turn 16 in november. i got offered this 1987 ford taurus. it has 40,000 miles on it and its only 0! its a teal blue and it has no rust, the color just is really dull. if i get that, how much would a paint job cost? is it a good car?
alright guys. i already brought it to a shop. he said everything is great, except something that will cost 2 to fix, the gas gauge. but everything else is in great condition

Seems like very low miles for a 22-year old car. If that’s true mileage, then it could be a decent deal. Insurance will be low, and Tauruses were pretty safe.
However, that being said, it’s still a 22-year old car. Make sure you spend $100 or so and have a mechanic check it over thoroughly. Low mileage means nothing if it hasn’t been maintained or it’s been sitting outside for 20-plus years.
I would worry about spending money on faded paint. It’s your first car, keep the cash you have in the bank for repairs. On a 22-year old car, things are going to go wrong. Belts, hoses, etc. A shiny new paint job on a car that doesn’t run gets you nowhere.
40,000 miles sounds like a lie.
As far as the rest of the condition, all you told us was that it’s blue, and has no rust.
That’s like asking how healthy a person is, if they’re blond, and have no zits.
Seriously.
Go get the service records, have a mechanic check it out, and find out WHY it’s only $500. If it has those low of miles, it should be quite a bit more.
Nevermind that I have yet to find any car for under $500 that doesn’t need several thousand dollars in repairs a month or two later.
sounds good
way one check for shape is by a checklist you can get by typing into search box how to check used car
follow a check list to find signs of problems but 500 for any car you can drive is a deal paint job price wil vary with shop an dpaint your want and how much worsk need to be done to get it right
And you want us to be psychic-mechanics….awesome. $500 sounds like you’re getting a junk car. The fact that you have no information at all about it’s mechanical condition, sounds like a junk car. The fact that all you’re worried about currently, is a paint job…sounds like you’re a poor shopper.
it is not a good deal unless you have the bucks to spend on it you have to consider mechanical problems and paint job like you said and who knows what else it is cheap but how would you cont on a 22 years old vehicle
you dont wanna stuck with aclunker and then what
Don’t listen to Kelly, for one. Ever. All she does is tell everyone that everything is a good deal, and reguritate other people’s answers. $500 for a car IS NOT A GOOD DEAL. Use some brains. The car cost somewhere around $10,000 when new. It’s the difference of shopping at a clothing store, or going to a Goodwill. It’s used, it’s crap, someone doesn’t want it, and that’s why they’re offering it to you.
