I owned a 2002 Ford Taurus, and to be honest I hated it. At the time it was bought, the car was new. It came with a manufacturers warranty, but there were so many restrictions. It didn’t cover half of the problems I had. I was always fixing things here and there, and putting so much unnecessary money in to that damn car. The first thing that gave was the starter. It was not that big of a deal, so I replaced it. Then came problems with the cooling system. I had to first replace the thermostat, then the water pump. Later down the road, like a year or so my car was still over heating. The reservoir that holds the engine coolant cracked, and of course I had to replace it. Come to find out the Radiator gave which put a big dent in my wallet… There were a few other minor things I fixed, but it was just your usual routine maintenance. In the end I only got 60,000 miles out of the car. This all happened last year in 2007, not a very long life span if you ask me. One of the pistons on the engine cracked, and the car wouldn’t go past 35 miles per hour, around the same time the transmission went. It was horrible because I was still making my monthly payments on the undrivable car, so I had to do a voluntary repo. Basically they took my car back, and junked it. I didn’t get any of my money back, but at least I didn’t owe them a cent more. I wasted my hard earned cash on that piece of crap. I know this may sound completely biased, but from my experience I would suggest not to buy a Taurus. Even if it is a newer model I still wouldn’t trust it. Try looking at several different dealerships before making your final decision. Since the market is bad the sells men are desperate, so make sure you don’t let them push around. And always bring someone with you for a second opinion. I would suggest checking a Chevy dealer. I know those cars can offer longevity. But the choice is all up to you. I wish you the best of luck in finding a new car.
any car that isnt JDM ( Japanese Domestic Market ) isnt considered reliable these days. I wouldnt characterize the taurus as reliable but it is a sturdy vehicle. In other words, its a tank….but who knows how long it will last…
