Is a 2001 Ford Taurus SEL with 82,000 miles a good buy for 5 thousand?
I was looking at a 2001 Ford Taurus SEL the other day for five thousand. A salesman told me the car wasnt worth the money. It’s an 01 with 82,745 miles. It has digital display, leather, all the options. I was wondering if this is a good buy? Or to go with the salesman and not buy it.

Yeppie it is overpri ced by around $3500 . It is right at the mileage for the transmission to go bad. I have seen even 06 Taurus going for less than $4000.
Problem areas on them
Auto transmission, sway bar struts, front and rear coil springs breaking, engines blowing up around 80,000, Senser for EGR called a DPFE Senser goes bad often, runs around $150 for the part. Heater hose assembly Dealer item, runs a couple hundred plus labor.
yeah that’s really good deal for that kind of car, they are pretty dependable.
this sounds like a bull-pappy story–why would the salesman tell you not to buy it//can you tell us another//perhaps your mother was too overbearing
Look up the car in Kelly Blue book before buying, then have it checked out by a mechanic for anything you dont know how to find.
It wouldn’t be good to buy a taurus and it breaks down from a bad tranny.

I don’t know where you live but that car here in Canada is only worth about 2 grand. The car is 8 years old.
