I own a 1989 ford taurus! The check engine light comes on giving a code 41. which is running lean any solution
i’ve changed the 02sensor (mechanic expense) what else can iI do to fix this problem?

According to the information you have given, and assuming the engine is a 3.0, the code POO41 is "02 bank 1 sensor 2 signals swapped with 02, bank 2 sensor 2"
you need a new idle speed sensor, I hope that works
95 % of the time o2 are replaced for lean or rich conditions for no good reason O2 sensors only read what Air fuelratio goes by them..Check for any vacum leaks. I have seen cracked rubber vacum line to the pcv valve on 3.0 taurus quite a bit.Hard to proprely diagnose without a lot of info.Get the mechanic to monitor pid data fuel trims Ford technicians have what we call a breakout box (not used a lot anymore )whick they can hook up and monitor sensor readings on pre obd II .model vehicles It will be able to help in proper diagnosis
I had an ‘89 Taurus that had a problem with the idle control motor. This needed to be removed and cleaned. The throttle body gets dirty and it would not close off well throwing off the sensors and the engine idle was rough.
A bad fuel pump could cause it. A bad or dirty Mass Air Flow sensor could cause it. An exhaust leak in front of the oxygen sensor could cause it. Pre-OBDII codes suck. There could be a lot of things that will cause it, all the way down to a grounded wire in the wiring harness. Without a high impedance volt meter or DSO, a wiring diagram, and the firm understanding of how the whole engine performance computer system, fuel system and internal combustion engine works, it’s all a guess. Get a mechanic with at least 15 years of advanced engine performance experience and he can find the problem. Or get a mechanic who is a lucky guesser.
there are idle adjustment screws on fuel pump so for now you are saying that you are running lean this means it can be adjusted to a richer fuel. however go to the library and look up how rich it should be and get copies of the page for about 10 cents then you also have the page for refrenceses.
One of the electrical circuits to your oxygen sensor is defective if the 41 code keeps coming up.Have technician check for proper operation.
I own a 1988 Taurus. Check all the rubber vacume lines and connections very carefully. Any small leak will cause a "lean" engine code.
