humming noise in rear on a 2003 ford taurus?
since the ford taurus is front wheel drive, and no rear differential to make noise, my question is. I have a humming or grinding type noise coming from the rear of the car. Its a constant hum when driving at a steady speed. Then as slowing down, it begin to slow down as it would be associated with the speed of the turning of the rear wheels. Could it be the rear wheel hubs and bearings? Thanks for any information.

Good chance it’s a rear hub assembly causing your noise. Does it change pitch if you make a turn to left or right? If it does more than likely it’s the problem. There should be no play in the wheel bearing. Sometimes when you take the weight of the car off the bearing it can be a challenge to hear or feel it. But most will make a rumble sound when rotated or will show movement when pressure applied to the wheel top and bottom. The bearing is replaced as an assembly. Avoid the cheap or second line hubs as they usually don’t last too long.
yes ,could also be tire noise does it change on different road sufaces? jack up the car and rotate the wheels listen ,also hold it and try moving the wheel there should be no play at all check both sides one at a time be sure to block the wheels and use jack stands
