I use an FM transmitter, but one major problem is that the transmitter competes against other frequencies. Fortunately, I drive an ’89 Taurus LX which has a manual power antennae, so I can have the antennae retracted while the radio is on. If you live in a densely populated area like So. Cal, you might need to disconnect the power antennae motor lead from the back of the radio, and connect it to a switch so you can lower the antennae while the radio is on.
You can buy an FM transmitter, especially designed to hold/connect/recharge an iPod, and your songs on the iPod will play through the FM portion of your existing radio unit. To work you must synchronize the radio and the transmitter to the same frequency, say 88.1 FM. Simple as that.
By the way , you can buy these units for $20 to $40- Belkin is a good brand.
G’Luck.
