First things first: Is the belt routing decal present (underside of hood or on front subframe)? If not, take a picture or make a sketch of the belt routing before you begin.
The tensioner roller is the small roller/pulley on the end of the spring-loaded arm on the front of the engine (right side of car). You will see a square hole in the arm just below the roller. Insert the end of a 1/2" breaker bar into the hole and turn to take tension off of the belt. Then remove the belt from the idler roller/pulley (the other small roller/pulley which is non-movable) and slowly let pressure off the tensioner arm - it will return past its original position (since you’ve removed the belt) to its stop.
Check all rollers/pulleys for dirt/oil (remove any accumulation with spray brake cleaner and an absorbent rag), wear (you shouldn’t hear or feel any ticking or grinding when rotating accessory pulleys) and misalignment (look down from above and up from below - they should all be in the same vertical plane). Correct any problems you see.
Buy a quality replacement belt. Clean up the old one, put it in the sleeve the new one came in, and throw it in your trunk as a spare. Even an old belt is better than none if your new one breaks on the road at some future date.
Installation is the reverse of removal. It’s easiest to loop the belt around the lower pullies/rollers first and pull the excess up through the top; if needed, have an assistant check/hold things in place underneath while you’re handling the top side. When you’ve got the belt positioned, use your 1/2" breaker bar to pull tension on the tensioner arm - you’ll end up pulling it almost/all the way to the other stop with a new belt. Loop the belt over the idler roller/pulley and make sure it’s seated properly on all the others. Then slowly let pressure off the tensioner arm so its roller/pulley rides on the flat belt surface.
Check to make sure the belt is sitting flat and in the grooves on every roller/pulley. Release tension on the tensioner slightly to correct any problems. Then start the engine and check to make sure it’s continuing to ride properly.
Good Luck!
If the underhood decal is gone and the old belt is off, your best choice is get a Haynes/Chiltons repair manual. Borrow one from your library.
you need either a 3/8s or 1/2 inch socket prybar from sears or anyother auto parts store insert it into the square of the tensioner then pull, then pull off the belt. You can view all this at this website called http://www2carpros.com
