Ford Taurus Transmission?
was driving a 1991 ford taurus with only 22,000 miles on it which had been sitting for about a year. after 800 miles niticed a burnt rubber smell and trail of transmissio fluid behind car. could this be a simple thing like the pan gasket or is it more likely a major failure

Hard to tell - the smell is more than likely the transmission fluid burning off the exhaust.
It could be as simple as a pan gasket or as nasty as a front pump seal.
