Changing wheel bearings on 1994 Ford Taurus?
Is this something that can be done at home or do I need to take this to a mechanic. What tools do you need to do this job?

on this car the bearing can be purchesed as a hub assembly. the cost is approx $105. this will make your job easier with the help of an axle puller and air tools. hope this helps.
You need a press, they are not cheap but some parts stores will press new bearing in for you if you dissassemble, ask your parts store
if you are not mechanically inclined or know very little about cars, take to a shop. if you feel like you can do it, get a book on the car and follow the instructions
If memory serves… front bearings are a press fit into the hubs, and will need a good press in order to get them out and install the new ones efficiently. Rear bearings are not press fit (again if memory serves) So, depending on your level of skill, you may just want to take to a shop and have them do in order to speed things up and reduce the chance of a problem in your driveway. Good luck.
You don’t actually need a machine shop press. Go and rent or buy a Hub Shark. As long as you have an air compressor and a good impact you will be able to use it to remove the bearing. Also you can check with parts stores to see if you can purchase a hub and bearing combo where the bearing is already pressed into a new hub. It may seem like a waste at first, but once you get the bearing off the hub you may find that the hub is scored anyway and then you’ve done all that work for nothing. Good luck!
