Ford Taurus 1986-1991 Archives

I have a 1989 taurus tranny will that fit? if so do i need to change anything such as the converter?

okay so i turn 16 in november. i got offered this 1987 ford taurus. it has 40,000 miles on it and its only 0! its a teal blue and it has no rust, the color just is really dull. if i get that, how much would a paint job cost? is it a good car?
alright guys. i already brought it to a shop. he said everything is great, except something that will cost 2 to fix, the gas gauge. but everything else is in great condition

I’m trying to install LED lights and that requires finding the parking light wire. If I could find that I would be able to do the rest. Anybody know?
I’m not looking to buy a wire, I’m asking where it is located on the car…

I do know where the parking lights are, I’m just looking for the wire that runs under the dash and having some difficulties.

Yes, I know, the 1991 Taurus is a rather ugly car, but it’s what I have so it’s what I deal with.

I took my car to the Ford dealership yesterday to replace the tie rods and front breaks. While he was under there he noticed that the struts were shot, but that I could wait on them for a while if I wanted. My question is (and what I forgot to ask him since I was already concentrating on that big 0 bill) how long can my car go on bad struts.

I have a 1988 Ford Taurus (only 37,000 miles) with the original suspension, so it’s not surprising that it’s finally warn out, but I’d like to put it off for a little bit.

Thanks.

The thing is, the tracer has 150,000 miles and the Taurus has 130,000 miles. Which one would be a better buy, both are around 00. Any suggestions?

I started taking care of an elderly gentleman. To help me get back and forth to his home to care for him, his daughter loaned me her second car.

It’s a 1989 Ford Taurus. Blue Book on the Internet at the highest price is 0.00.

She wants to sell this car to me. She started at 00, then 00 now she’s at 0. She says she wants to get out what she put into it. That entails: new brakes, 4 used tires, a 0 compressor and a new battery.

I’ve been driving this car for 8 months. It gets me where I need to go. It has no air conditioning and where we live it’s sunshine 9 months out of the year, and can get extremely hot during summer.

I need a car, but should I pay this much for this car. It’s in okay condition, but I’m going to be putting money into it as well to bring it up to par. What do you think???

I’m 16 and own a 1991 ford taurus that stoped running a few days ago. Some old gas got suck into the carbourator, I know how to put gas in carborators, only one proublem, how in the hell do I get to it? It has a Jappiness engine and I have to open it so I can get to the damn thing. So, does anyone know how to get to a carborater on a 1991 ford taurus< or should I even bother.

my manual does not tell me what tools i need.

what tools do i need to remove the axle or halfshaft?what size… I need to buy new replacement bolts and nuts correct?

My engine light goes on and off. Usually it comes on right as i hit somewhere between 45 to 50 mph. Then sometimes it will go off again when I let off the gas. I have notice when I go real slow it sputters and I know I need new shocks. But other than that the car runs great. When I say sputters sometimes I do mean hardly ever. Please help or tell me how to help myself without going to mechanic.
fuel filter has been replaced but last year, could it be my fuel pressure regulator or my fuel injectors?Or something else

I know I shouldn’t pay any attention to EPA estimates, but others have reported getting between 17 mpg and 20 mpg in moderate city traffic. I am getting between 10 mpg and 12 mpg.

I recently replaced an Idle Air Control Valve, Serpentine belt, Exhaust Gas Recirculator Valve, and had my Catalytic Converters (all 3) checked. I don’t drive with a lead foot, I don’t start off the line too fast and I don’t come to sudden stops.

Anyway, I also ran a KOEO self test (uses 2-digit codes) and it came up with the left and right oxygen sensors detecting lean, and Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit Failure. That last one sounds bad, but then again I have one of those hidden fuel shut-off buttons inside the car on the floor next to the driver door, so it may have just saved into memory the fact that I used that.

When I took it to a muffler shop, thinking it was the cat converters causing a problem, they said that it’s not the cats and that they smell unburned gas. Maybe a leaky fuel pump or fuel line? Maybe the fuel injector? At this point, I have no idea, but I can’t afford to have bad gas mileage. Could someone help?

1988 Ford Taurus 3.8 V6, auto with OD. The engine almost always runs without issues when driving, or when stopped with the transmission in drive or reverse. The second the transmission is shifted into neutral or park, the engine increases in RPM’s and then drops off. This cycle usually continues until the engine stops running. Sometimes it recovers and idles for a few seconds, then returns to the fluctuating RPM situation. With the transmission in park or neutral, the RPM’s fluctuate, if you put the transmission in reverse or drive, the engine usually recovers and runs at a steady continuous RPM. If the trany is shifted back into neutral or park, the RPM fluctuation starts all over again. This issue has mostly if not always occurred when the engine is at its normal operating temp. There have only been a few time this occurred with the transmission in drive. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this type of issue?

Hi let me tell you about myself
Im into Performance modifications. (not fast and furious stickers ricer crap.)
I would drive in winter, and summer
WONT BUY FOREIGN

so heres my options/ideas

Ford Taurus SHO ( yeah its a Yamaha motor) MTX only

older Ford Crown victoria 1986-94

f150 or bronco any year 86-95

Chevrolet Caprice 86-98

what are the best out of these for modification. Might i add im not racing or anything just looking for better sound ( out of the V8’s) and less rasp from the SHO

I have replaced the flasher, and multiswitch, and the hazards work but not the turn signals. After I replaced the flasher they work off on for a while. One day they would work fine the next not at all. once I left the them 0n as I was on the freeway and they startred to work. now nothing. any suggestions

What does this code mean?

Where is the heater core located on my car? Need to know so I can Replace it with a new one.

I own a very old car (1988 ford taurus) and it has an automatic transmission. I’m a real freak about merging onto highways, so I usually shift it from the overdrive gear into the drive to downshift it (Pushing the pedal to the floor doesn’t always downshift it) and try to get up to speed as quickly as possible. So the question is, would this have cause my need to rebuild the transmission after 67,000 miles?

Can this be fixed without buying a new Rack? this is the only place it is leaking.

I bought this car from this guy a week ago and he said that all is wrong is the cv joint so i replaced the cv joint and it turns out the transmission is gone on it i bought the car for 450 i gave him 300 in cash and am supposed to give him another 100 in a couple of days and he wont give me the title until i pay for it in full i already stuck 200 into the car and the is rust on the car i can get replacment parts for it for 175 dollars it had 97,000 miles on it what should i do? i dont have that much money……I am a good person why do people screw me over!!!!!!!
