I have a 1989 Ford Taurus GL with power windows and door locks. My front passenger window motor works but not that well. When I push the button to make the window go down it starts out going (a bit slower than normal, but its 21 years old, its fast for its age) then when it gets about an inch down it creeps. Then when its about 3 inches from being all the way to the bottom it goes back to its normal speed. I have a window motor that almost have out of a 1994 taurus in my auto shop, but I want to know if its the motor that needs to be replaced, or is it just the tracks that need to be greased? Also both of the rear door lock actuators dont work and i dont know if they both went out at the same time or if somethings wrong. No fuses are blown. The little tab on the top of the passengers rear door was gone for a while a few years back and i dont know how long it was gone for, and think that water might have gotten in there but im not sure. There it a piece of tape over the hole now. Any suggestions on whats wrong?
Ford Taurus 1986-1991 Archives
I’m looking for something to add to my extensive fleet of used cars:)
2007 Ford Taurus, 1991 Buick Riviera, 1987 Ford Escort Wagon and a 1973 Chevy Cheyenne truck.
It’s time to replace something old with something new … or just keep adding to it:)
Thanks and thumbs up to all who answer … just give me time to get back and read the answers.
ok ill be driving soon and im going to be getting my dads old ford taurus. And i want to make it look much better a but more like a mussel car if that’s even possible! I dint know much about cars but i was thinking in the price range of about another 2k to 3.5k for this car but the less the better. THANKS! This is the link that shows exactly how the car looks. http://www.atozautolights.com/images/AutoPhotos/FOTA8691.jpg
I have a 1989 Ford Taurus GL with a 3.0L Vulcan. I was planning on getting a gauge cluster that had the additional tach in it, like ones from the LX model of my car, or the sister of the Taurus, the Sable. But, I have heard that if I was to put this gauge cluster in with a tach, that it wouldn’t work, since I only have a speedometer, gas gauge, and temp gauge, and then a few idiot lights. I don’t know if they meant the whole cluster wont work, or just the tach. Is this true?
Another question I have is I found a cluster that’s a perfect match for my car. But, the cluster I want has just below 81’000 miles on it, and my car has just over 92’000 miles on it. I remember watching Matilda and the dad hooked up a drill to the odometer and it spun backwards, the mileage of the car. Is that something I can do, only go forward with this gauge cluster? I have also heard that if I somehow find a way to change the mileage, that the numbers will separate, making it look like I tampered with it. I don’t plan on selling my car any time soon, and if I did, i guess it wouldn’t be that important if the numbers were separated, but then again I don’t wouldn’t want anything getting in the way if there comes a time where I have to sell it. So, is there a way to change the mileage on the odometer, without taking it apart, and without making the numbers separate, and possibly use a drill to make the mileage go up? Please tell me all possible ways, thank you.
I have a 1987 ford taurus and my computer is fried I think…..Its behind my dash some where around the glovebox right? Any tips would be very apreciated.
acts like it’s not getting any gas but has new fuel pump and filter
feul is pumping & it fires but will barely idle for afew seconds . I sprayed starter fluid in it & it ran and reved up for a moment , so istuck a screwdriver in the check valve on the feul rail & swiched on the pump . fuel came out like aweak waterfountain .It has anew pump & filter . so the question is, does it have apressure regulator & what should the pressure be ?
I have a 1989 Ford Taurus with the standard gauge cluster that just has the gas gauge, temp gauge( as far as gauges) and the speedometer, and a few idiot lights. I wanted to get one with a tach, but I have a dillema. I don’t know if its ok to use a Sable cluster since I think all of them had the gauge cluster with the tach, another dillema is I don’t know if i I have to use a specific 1989 cluster, and then if I have to use a 1989 Taurus cluster. I would love to be able to use a 1989 Sable cluster, or a 1986-1995 cluster. I have found a 1994 mercury Sale cluster on ebay for .99 bucks. I don’t know if it will be work in my car and I dont wan to buy it and then take my car half way apart then realize it doesnt work. So, will any 1986-1995 Taurus or Sabe cluser work? Or do I have to get a specific 1989 Model year whether its Taurus or Sable cluster? Or does it have to 1989 Taurus only cluster?
If you have ever looked at the gauge cluster out of this year range of car like on ebay or something, my 1989 has the same pysical shape of up to a 1995 gague cluster. And I am looking for the mechanical cluster, with actual needles. I don’t want the eletronic one. I don’t even think it would work with my car anyway.
I have a 1989 Ford Taurus GL with a 3.0L Vulcan. Within the next couple of years, I really wanted to be able to buy a new or used 1993-1995 Ford Taurus SHO Engine and AUTO transmission. I also planned on getting the bucket seats, center console, 140 MPH Speedometer, and the SHO horn plastic cover. Im still undecided about the trim around the outside of the car, well to be honest, I dont think I could find it.
I was wondering if I could swap out the engine and transmission with one from an SHO without any problems. Oh, and I also planned on getting the ABS computer so my brakes will be able to stop me, along with discs in the back. But I didnt know if I would run into any problems. I think that the computer port should fit into the computer port I have in my car now, but I dont know if it will be compatible.
If this isnt possible, I might just buy a 1989 Ford Taurus SHO, and convert it to an AUTO. I like the way the 1992-1995 look, but the trunk liftover is REDICULOUS and it feels very strange inside the car. We have a GL in my Autoshop at my school.
just a stock 88 taurus with a 3.0 v6 wandering about the top speed of it? and what type of 5/6 speed tranny can i put in it?
It goes in 1st and 2nd fine, but it won’t go in 3rd or overdrive and the o/d light is on and I can’t get it to go off.
ok… the car has an oil leak, but if there is a bad axle seal, will that make the oil leak worse? will that cause it to leak more oil?
will oil leak out of a bad axle seal?

My mom’s car wouldn’t start after sitting near a frozen river in 0 degree F weather. Everyone suggested the fuel line froze, but my dad thinks the fuel pump might be bad because the pump isn’t making any audible noise when it should, before you start it. It’s a 1987 Ford Taurus. This happened friday night, it’s sunday afternoon now, but temperatures have stayed below freezing the whole time. So if the fuel line is frozen, then it hasn’t had the opportunity to unfreeze. Also does anyone know exactly where the fuel pump is on this car?
Hey, I am the long owner of a 1990 Ford Taurus station wagon. Just recently I’ve begun to experience a slight tug to the right thru the steering wheel, and at lower speeds and mid range (under 15mph, and between 30-45mph) some serious steering wobble and bouncing (only at lower speeds).
No really strange noises or anything, and handling doesn’t seem to be adversely affected. What could be the problem?
Unfortunately, I know it’s not a balancing or tire weight issue.
Whatever it is, I forgot to mention primarily affects the drivers side front wheel, not the passengers side and certainly not the rear wheels.
I have a 1988 Ford Taurus 4 cylinder manual transmission I would like to do an engine swap and I would like to know would a mustang 5.0 engine would fit in my 88 Taurus.I am in the process of restoring it.I want it to be faster and I was thinking about adding 2 turbos to it is this possible?
need to know where to find a diagram for a 1986 ford taurus serpeten belt
