2006 ford Taurus SE OBDII codes: P0171, P0174 where is the MAF located?
Here are the common problems:
leak between the MAF and the throttle body;
leak in the PCV system, especially the hose elbow;
leaking intake manifold gaskets;
any other vacuum leak;
"lazy" oxygen sensors (the front ones).
Is this what these’s code’s mean?

You need to check the tube from the air filter to the intake. Take it apart, clean the mafs, you see it in the tube it looks like a tiny little wire, buy some mafs cleaner at the auto store. Spray it on there… from a distance, you dont want to break it.
then put it all back together make sure there are no leaks.
After that get youself some soapy water.. lots of soap. at the back of the engine behind the intake you’ll see vacuum line coming out, there is a little elbow that connect two lines at a 90 degree angle. it is made of rubber. Over time this will rot out and crack. with the engine running rubb some soapy water on it, you’ll see if it’s leaking because it will foam up.
it could be somewhere else… but those stupid rubber elbow are usually the culprits.
I’d say check those two things…. one of them is probably your problem.

The MAF is located next to the throttle body and can cause a lean condition or hard to start.This is happening because false or unmeasured air is entering the intake through cracked or loose hose connections.Replace or adequitly patch all areas that air is entering between the throttle body and the MAF sensor.Once you have accomplished this,with the engine running tap the top of the MAF sensor with the back of your fingers.If the engine dies the MAF sensor is defective and would need to be replaced.Happy Birthday
Reading a book I see for common answers…
Look for a weak vaccum hose probably in PCV valve, or a line off as you will normally hear them hiss… if not, it will probably take a pro to find the leak as some leaks are hard to find espcially since that intake makes noise by itself normally.
