2006 Ford Taurus hesitates and sometimes stalls when stopped, what could be the problem?
Also the gas mileage has dropped to about 20 mpg and before it was getting around 35 mpg. The car sat for about a month because it had a flat tire so I was driving my other car, I don’t know if this could have anything to do with it. The check engine light also is on. Let me know if you need anymore info to help me with this question. Thanks
I’m pretty sure it has a 3.0 engine in it

Go to Auto-zone and have your trouble codes scanned (for free). While you are there, buy a can of spray Gum-out and clean out your idle air control valve. It is possible that after the car has been sitting that the fuel may have spoiled, depending on where you buy gas. Is this the 3.0 engine or the 3.5 engine?????
If the light is on, it is on for a reason. It is passable that the fuel pressure is low. Have it scanned at any AUTO_ZONE
dirty fuel filter go get a tune up and have all filters and oil changed…
sediment settled and you now need to either blow out your engine running it on the freeway for a while to clear out the lines and / or
get the tune up
How many miles on the vehicle? It could be possible that its covered under warranty…. Gasoline starts to gum up when it gets old, so if it sat for a while that might be your problem. They sell additives for this.
