1993 Ford Taurus 3.0 won’t start, no spark, distributor doesn’t turn?
I have a 1993 Ford Taurus 3.0. It will not start, it turns over fine. I checked my spark and was getting no spark to any of my plugs. I then removed my distributor cap, and the distributor does not turn with the engine is turning over. Timing chain??? Does this sound right, also do I need to pull the whole motor? Thanks for any help or advice.

If rotor does not turn , try turning it with your hand ( not too hard). Small nylon gear is driven off of another gear on cam and may be broken, you will have to pull distributor to replace this gear. This end of this shaft where gear mounts also drives the oil pump so use care seat distributor on replacement.
YES IN ALL PROABABILITY IT IS YOUR TIMING GEAR OR BELT. IT CAN BE CHANGED WITHOUT PULLING THE MOTOR. IT IS NOT SIMPLE IT TAKES A LITTLE INNOVATION.
ok, i own a 94 taurus 3.0 and pretty much having same problem, i replaced the wires, plugs, cap, button, fuel filter and fuel pump. If it doesnt start when i turn the key the first time, then the second time i have to hold the pedal all the way down to the floor, dont pump the pedal, then try starting it, it works for me 85percent of the time, good luck im still trying to get my car fixed to
Could be the timing chain. Could also be an actual breakage of the shaft that turns the rotor. In either case , I don’t think you have to pull the motor. It’s not fun, but you can access locations for either without pulling the engine. Depending on mileage, and your future plans for the car, however, you may want to do a more significant overhaul at this time – or even swap for another engine. They should be readily available.
it could be the chain and again it might be the gear on the end of the dist., the teeth on the gear might be gone.
i have a nissan maxima and the same thing happend. i whan to the nissan dealer and they said the whole engine needs to be replaced because it is very old. did you buy the car used? if you did see what the old owners took care of the care how many miles does it have . if it has over 75000 miles than its junk. i think it would be better if you got a different car
