1988 ford taurus smog problem with “AIV”?
i went to get my 1988 ford taurus smogged, it passed emissions just fine, but it failed the visual inspection because the guy at the smog place said he couldn't find the "AIV" which im guessing is the "air injection valve?" because on the final spread sheet next to "Air injection" it says "missing" has anybody else had this problem? i dont understand how the smog tech. can fail my smog because HE couldn't "find" the AIV. what should i do?? i tried to apply to get it BAR'd but since he put missing on the results, the car now says "TAMPERED" and consumer affairs won't help me out because of the reason it says "Tampered" so im lost. anybody know wherei can locate this "AIV" crap so i can get my car to pass smog? THANKS
how could the AIV be "missing" if EVERYTHING else passed with flying colors??

You found a real nitwit. They don't have the brightest bulb running those machines…. They usually inspect BEFORE they smog, your nitwit didn't. Did you ask the nitwit what it would cost to add one, IF the nitwit would even know what it should look like? Did you talk to the shop owner (let's hope HE isn't the nitwit)? You're so screwed… now you have to show it's been repaired. Have you tried another nitwit?
I would stop by a Ford Service Center and talk with them. Go to the parts counter and ask for an AIV, you 'll get the information you need to go back and get your smog fixed.
